Default Best Way to Lose Weight

I have always felt (and proven!) that the only way to lose weight that makes sense to me is portion control and exercise. I don't make anything taboo, but rather just count calories and keep everything in moderation.

You're absolutely right, consume less calories and burn more by exercising and you should have little problem losing weight

I would say eat well but exercise regularly, this should surely balance and maintain your diet. It is always a must to control our regular diet too, having something with less calories would surely be helpful. Exercising is a must, everyday.

I agree that the best way to lose weight is to just watch what you eat and exercise. Believe me I know it is easier said then done. But don't give up, and keep trying.

When I diet, I always have one day a week that I call a "cheat day." On that day, I eat small portions of anything I want. On the other days, I try to be a good girl and stick to healthy foods. That method works for me most of the time. Anyway, I've been able to stay on my diet for three weeks so far, and that's a personal best for me!

You just stumbled across one of my "secrets!" I always "cheat" on Saturdays. We go to the supermarket then and we always eat out that day. I know the number of calories goes much higher on Saturdays, but it seems to be working just fine, so I don't need to try to "fix" it.

On the other hand, like you said, "small portions" .. that's important. It doesn't mean I can eat a pound box of chocolates and a bag of chips just because it's Saturday!

Congrats on the three weeks! That's wonderful.

Don't forget to make sure your calories are worthwhile. There's a big difference between the calories found in a cup of carrots versus those in a candy bar.

I have a "cheat weekend" rather than just one day, and it helps to keep me on track. I'll find that all week I'll be craving something (chocolate usually), but then when I go to buy it I'll just not care about it much. On the other hand, if I get to eat some chocky and I'm still craving it, that's a sublime feeling!

The most weight I've lost was the result of walking a lot. I wasn't even trying to reduce portions at the time, but that was back in my 20s and my metabolism has changed since then.

Now I try to walk regularly, limit the size of portions and choose "better" calories as a poster referred to in a post above.

I have found that no craving is more powerful than my ability to wait for Saturday. In case no one else noticed, the weeks are going faster and faster as years go by and it seems like it's *always* Saturday.

I've tried several fad diets and have two diet focused blogs and they often work short term but don't last if you don't use them as a springboard to healthier eating and living.
Counting calories really helps me because it makes me accountable to myself. I use online calorie counter at fitday.com to help me (it's free).
I also firmly believe in the cheat day to keep yourself from feeling deprived.

I think it helps a lot walking everyday. Walking is good for your heart, and will help you lose weight.

I agree exercise is what works for me. I have a hard time with counting calories. I try to eat balances meal and try not to deprive myself of a small piece of chocolate now and then. I feel if you deprive yourself of a small treat (a piece not a huge bar ) you may over indulge later.

I love the cheat day idea. I always find it hard to stick to a diet because I feel so deprived of the good stuff! Maybe having that day would be incentive enough to keep me on the straight and narrow. Thanks for the tip!

There are a lot of fad diets out there, but the only 'real' sensible way to lose weight is less food, more exercise. It's a simple solution, but one that is so hard to do.

The formula is easy: Eat less and exercise more. Fill up on raw fruits and vegetables and then add in the rest.

It's putting it into practice that is difficult.

Very true... and don't fall for any of the constant array of fad diets that cut something out because as soon as you start eating normally again, the weight will return.

Hi Riskey,

I think the same. The most efficient system is to combine both a diet and exercises. Effective weight management is exclusively based on the balance of
energy intake and energy consumption. And I`d like to offer you the Qwave Diet System which is designed specifically to match your goals, ability, age, gender. It is like having your own personal trainer. (qwave dot com)

Every once in a while I do a low carb diet, and it works great. I can usually lose about 20 lbs. of fat in 4 weeks. After the diet I can go back to eating like I regularly do, and as long as I eat healthy and stay active, I will keep off the weight. I've just started the diet again after months working behind a desk and doing little exercise due to an injury, I've put on quiet a bit of fat. My goal is to go from 188 lbs. to 170 lbs in a month. One week in, I am at 183 lbs. already. Right on schedule!

The diet works like this. Only meat and vegetables 6 days a week. No grains or fruit. One day a week I carb load, eating whatever I want and as much as I want. I take vitamin supplements to compensate for the lack of fruit. It's tough to get used to, especially breakfast, but it works great!
