Lower pains
My lower back hurts now unless I sleep on a simple pad on the floor. I guess I need a really hard bed. I can sometimes get it to "pop" and I feel a release. It also helps if I sleep with a large pillow between my legs.
Anyone else know any simple tricks to help with a lower back problem?

Don't use a hard mattress
A common misconception is that a hard mattress is good for your back. It is not.
A medium-firm mattress is much better. If you're sleeping in the wrong position every night you're always going to have issues.
Get yourself a quality memory foam mattress and is designed for back pain.
I would also consider visiting a chiro so he/she can help you with your recovery.

A good store will be able to direct you to the right mattress by asking specific questions about your sleep patterns and position. I know that the one in Quebec called "Dormez Vous" does this, so there must be others that can do the same.

I have problems with pain in my lower back due to scoliosis that was not diagnosed. I went to a chiropractor and I can say for me it has helped tremendously. Some people don't think that they are good to go to but I have to say that it has helped in my case.

The one thing that doctor stated was to try being active doing some minor activity work like may be playing monopoly or surfing net and minimum walk along with the prescription he mentioned, alternative medicines would be avoid lifting heavy weights, never sleep on really hard base or bed, a good heating pad would help and having a nice massage would be really great.

Like tater03, I have scoliosis that was diagnosed when I was in eighth grade. My back is also sore, even though I have improved my posture so much. I think that i definitely need to get a new mattress.

I used to have similar pains until I went to see a chiropractor who was really great. He helped straighten up my back and gave lots of advice, like not carrying a heavy bag on one shoulder!

I agree that a hard mattress would not be able a good idea either. I have a bed that is not too soft and not too hard. I have fibromyalgia so I have to sleep on something that is good. I also sleep on a bed foam that helps with my back and other areas of my body.

yeah I do falun gong exercises, it works great but you do have to avoid all the bad foods and drinks. I avoid fried foods, you may have to avoid spicy foods you have to food diary and see. Soy, high salty foods, pork and other foods can make it worse or better. Also take a cold shower rinse it helps very fast. It doesn't feel great at first.

One idea that our parents used to do is to put a sheet of plywood in between the mattress and box spring. They thought it helped, although I never tried it. If you sleep on your back, you could put a little roll or pillow between the small of your back and the mattress. Do you find that heat helps? If so, you could buy some of those sticky heat iron oxide pads that stay hot for hours. However, I believe they caution against use during sleep but I found it worked for me. A chiro wouldn't hurt, either.

A friend of mine who has back problems apparently had success with techniques he read about in a book about walking as a form of help for back pain.
I don't remember the exact title of the book, but does that sound familiar to anyone here?

lower back pain
I have lower back pain when I stand or walk for a long time. Have never really tried anything . I do sometimes take a hot bath and it seems to help.

Any kind of pain that has been around for a couple of weeks or more should be brought to your doctor's attention. I would wear a pair of sweatpants and shoes that easily gotten out of, because he will probably order xrays to see if there is anything off with your spine.

I think seeing a chiropractor is a very good idea. I've also gotten some relief from low back pain by getting regular massages, especially if you have a massage therapist who knows what he or she is doing.

Massages are a great idea for lower back pain. It's a good reason to splurge and be good to yourself.

I've always had lower back pain. But it was less noticable when I was exercising more. As I've gotten older and my body less strong, I notice I have more aches and pains than when I was exercising on a regular basis.

The only comfortable mattress I ever had was an extra firm orthopaedic mattress. When I needed to replace it I took professional advice and bought a very expensive orthopaedic mattress that is not quite as firm. It has been a disaster, my back has never been so bad, so I am going back to a rock hard mattress and the present mattress is heading for the tip after just one year.

Because I have neuropathy I have back and hip pain often. I have a hospital type bed that has motors to lift the head and foot area and on nights that the pain in my back or feet is bad I go and sleep in the spare room on the hosp bed. It was given to me but I know you can get them often for cheap in the local classifieds. I have seen many here for 400 bucks and less. I would like to put two of them in my bedroom for both of us to sleep on because I find the mattress the best so as soon as I find a model that matches the one I have and is cheap enough I am going to get it and do it. I am so used to my king size bed as far as room to move but I think the two hosp style ones will make a king size when put together anyway. My boyfriend likes the mattress too so he is up to the idea as well. I would try one before you attempt to buy one tho just in case you don't like it but the one I have takes pressure off certain areas just because you can adjust little bits here and there on different nights when you need to.

Yoga and stretching really seem to help out my lower back problems. Of course, warm heating pads and a hot bath or shower are also helpful in allieveting the pain.
