Effects of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder on mental skills?

I am taking Effexor now, but while it has shown positive effects on my mood, it also has neutralized me to the point where I feel completely "bland" emotionally. Perhaps it could be one many causes for my diminished intellectual capacity as well. I'll be discussing this with my doctor next week.

I did consider applying for disability benefits but haven't done so yet. One of the reasons is that I live in a very small town and that like many people like me who suffer from depression and other mental illnesses, I haven't totally acknowledged publicly that I suffer from this kind of illness. This is something I am working on...
