Default Quit smoking but ...

Hey guys,
i am 18 years old and i have quit smoking for 2 months now. I used to smoke marijuana everyday and about a pack of cigarette every two days. Thankfully, i was able to quit all that stupid stuff for the sake of my health. I would get really badly congested (blood in mucus), shortness of breath and (rarely) a pinching sensation in my chest. I have neither had any shortness of breath nor any pinching sensations since i quit. But every once in a while when i blow my nose there is blood. It never drips just stays in the back of my nose. It's frustrating because i have made a great deal of sacrifices to quit and still one of the symptoms hasn't completely gone away and i sometimes get really stressed out about it. I saw a sinus specialist and he didn't seem to see anything wrong.

I really badly seek advice,
thanks in advance,
Andrew

I would say seek the advice of another specailist if you are nervous about it and most people would be. Also if the second finds nothing you might be ok but it would go away after more time. I don't really know many who smoked that short a period of time who find bleeding in the nose, maybe after several years so maybe it is something else like thin membranes in the nose. Do you use any nose sprays or vicks up the nose? I have seen people stuff vicks up the nose and after a few years they have thinned membranes and one blow causes a nose bleed but it does not run on it's own time just from a blow and the pressure given inside the nose. Are you on any meds that are said to cause nose bleeds? More could be asked and you should keep an eye on it for sure, good luck.

Blood in mucus every once in a while, is not a sign of any disease associated withthe personal habits you have described.

The air in your home might be dry, or you may have a slight sinus infection, but there isn't anything that you have described here, that would be the direct cause of your bloody mucus.

I have read that your body recovers in a half life. By that I mean...if you were a smoker for 10 years, it can take your lungs up to 5 years to clean themselves out. If you are really worried about your lungs you can go get your family MD to order some chest X-Rays to ease your mind!

The occasional blood in mucus when blowing the nose can have causes unrelated to smoking.

Has it been dry where you live? Do you have allergies?

What medications do you take?

You are 100% right! Those are all great questions to ask yourself in this situation. (We have wood heat here and its so dry!) Just mentioned the chest x-rays more for peace of mind.

ATM, congratulations on making the positive lifestyle changes.

I think there are excellent suggestions above, and I'd also suggest you try a humidifier if you live in a very dry place. I think you may find that more comfortable and it may help the bleeding if it's related to the air quality. I think a second medical opinion is a good idea.

If you thinking about quitting there are many benefits to quitting smoking like health, sense of taste and smell improve. And also many other things that can help to quit smoking i.e Nicotine replacement treatment(NRT) and Champix- a medicine, the effect of nicotine in the body.
