Choosing a Hypnotherapist
A friend has decided to try hypnotherapy to help her quit smoking. She's looking for some advice on how to choose a reputable hypnotherapist. Having seen people be hypnotised on stage to bark like dogs etc she is rather worried that an unscrupulous practicioner could do more harm than good.

Maybe your friend could ask for a referral from her doctor or from other people she knows who have used hypnotherapy to quit smoking. Of course before she selects a provider, she'll want to discuss their credentials and her concerns about the whole process.

You might want to also check out ARCH Canada. (Association of Registered Clinical Hypnotherapists). This association has a more stringent policy for members. You can check out their website at http://www.archcanada.ca/EN/index.html

Choosing a Hypnotherapist
I recommend contacting the professional order of psychologists in your province. The order usually has a referral list based on the psychologist's particular areas of expertise.

Hello Green-Moo,
Unfortunately one of my family member having this problem. I want to know the experience of your friend so that I can suggest him to hiring a Hypnotherapists. |
Major sources for finding a competently trained hypnotherapist are: doctors, family and friends, ex-clients, and recognised hypnosis and hypnotherapy organisations which operate independently of any particular school or group of schools. This independence may be checked by ascertaining from the particular association’s website whether it is open to all suitably qualified therapists or only to graduates of that association’s school and affiliates – in other words, to those with obvious business interests in the association.
