lung transplant

My brother had a lung transplant a year ago. He didn't have lung cancer, but he had COPD and emphysema so badly he could not live long unless something was done. His recuperation hasn't gone the way he would like, as the anti-rejection drugs have messed with his stomach and left him trembly. He doesn't see it from my perspective; he can walk around a bit while before he needed his scooter all the time, he isn't coughing constantly, his voice is much stronger.
The man who donated his lung will be in my prayers always.

That is great news. There is nothing worse than not being able to breathe. I hate all my lung problems and I hope that when I get older they don't restart. The feeling of fire in your chest and just wanting to stop and let go is so hard to resist and keep fighting when you cannot breathe.

Sorry about your lung problems. You're right, the act of breathing is so fundamental, when you have problems with it, the temptation to just give up is overwhelming. My brother felt just the same.

I am glad to hear that he was able to find a donor and that over all is doing well. I can only imagine how you must feel about the donor. That is the most awesome thing to do for someone.

The donor for my brother will be in my prayers forever! He must have died in the very prime of life because the doctor said that it was a strong healthy lung. I know from working in an ER for a couple of years that most of those kind of donations of healthy organs come from head trauma patients. I can only think that he could have left behind a wife and children, perhaps...I can imagine his wife signing the papers to donate her husband's organs...his family, who made such a hard decision, are in my prayers forever as well! To think that a tragedy for one family became such a happy blessing for our family.

He has to understand that these type f recuperation takes time ut over time he will get better for sure.

Will he be able to meet the donors family if they want to meet when the requirement is up? I bet it would be great for him to be able to thank the family in person for getting such a gift.

I don't know if we ever will get to know who the donor was; if it was possible I'm sure my Mom would have found out. I can't tell you how thankful I am to the family, I can only hope that soon they will get the reward they deserve.

He was fortunate to have the transplant, but that doesn't eliminate his right to complain!

After all, that is part of being alive!

good progress

Thanks all for your prayers and kind thoughts. My brother has been able to move from my parent's house into an apartment of his own. His daughter is around to help him out. This week his son is coming to visit from Texas, and neither one has seen the other since before the transplant. I think my nephew will have a fantastic surprise!

Lung transplantation, is a surgical procedure in this a patient's diseased lungs are partially or totally replaced by lungs. I hope you will get a man very soon who will donate his lung.

Hello,
That is really great news. I hate all my lung problems and I hope that when I get older they don't restart. The feeling of fire in your chest and just wanting to stop and let go is so hard to resist and keep fighting when you cannot breathe.
